Sheet Metal Processing
Sheet Metal Processing
The manufacturing process begins with selecting the metal and cutting it into the desired size and shape. The metal is then formed into the final product through various processes such as rolling, extrusion and bending.

1. Laser Cutting

Laser cutting is a critical first step in sheet metal fabrication, directly influencing the accuracy and performance of later bending, welding, and assembly. Top Performance is equipped with German and Japanese-imported high-power fiber laser cutting machines, capable of handling both large-format and thin-to-medium sheet thicknesses. Compatible materials include carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum alloy, galvanized sheet, and copper, supporting stable thickness ranges from 0.5mm to 20mm.
1
Process advantages:
1 - Clean, perpendicular edges—no need for secondary finishing.

2 - Cutting precision up to ±0.1mm, ideal for tight assembly tolerances.

3 - Supports intricate geometries (e.g., honeycomb patterns, curved slots, weld guides).

4 - Equipped with automatic loading & nesting software to maximize material yield

5 - Integrated with MES systems for smart production scheduling.

2
Typical Applications:
1 - Decorative panels, industrial enclosures, furniture cladding.

2 - Openings, outlines, and fitting edges for structural parts.

3 - Pre-cut weld joints for perfect alignment during assembly.

2. CNC Bending

CNC bending transforms flat sheets into three-dimensional structures and is a core process in metal fabrication. Our imported 4- and 6-axis CNC press brakes enable precise multi-angle, multi-step bending for complex shapes and medium-thickness plates. Integrated with laser cutting CAD/CAM data, our bending software compensates for material springback and thickness variance, ensuring consistent fit and structural reliability.

1
Process Features:
1 - Bending range from 0.6mm to 6mm for steel, stainless, and aluminum.

2 - Supports U, Z, L, box-shaped, and custom-profile components.

3 - Flexible tooling changeover supports low-volume, high-mix production.

4 - Auto-compensation & back gauge systems maintain ±0.2mm accuracy.

5 - Non-marking bending available for parts with aesthetic surfaces.

2
Typical Applications:
1 - Table frames, equipment brackets, enclosures, filing cabinet shells.

2 - Structural reinforcements, edge flanges, snap-fit joints.

3. Welding Techniques

Welding is a critical operation in sheet metal processing, especially for edge sealing, joint assembly, and structural reinforcement. Compared to pipe welding, sheet metal welding emphasizes aesthetic quality, heat control, and precision joining for thin plates. Top Performance offers a range of specialized sheet metal welding techniques, including automated, laser, TIG, and spot welding.

Automated Welding

Robotic or track-based welding systems ensure consistent quality and high output for repetitive, mid-thick sheet structures like stiffeners, panels, and frames.

· Fast, consistent welds.
· Applicable for butt, fillet, and flat welds.
· Accurate path control with programmable parameters.

Laser Welding

Ideal for stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum sheets between 0.5–2.5mm. Laser welding provides extremely narrow, low-distortion seams with minimal post-processing, making it the best choice for visible joints and precision seams.

· Narrow weld seams and minimal heat-affected zone.

· Suitable for curved joints, seams, and dissimilar materials.

· Supports both continuous and pulsed welding modes.

· Smooth finish with little to no grinding required.

TIG Welding (Argon Arc)

Best suited for delicate assemblies made of stainless steel or aluminum. Delivers clean, strong, and aesthetically pleasing welds with inert gas shielding.

Spot Welding (Resistance)
Fast and localized, this method is ideal for attaching ribs, brackets, and tabs in sheet metal. The process applies force and electrical current to create a secure weld at specific points.
